Bit depressing…

I see Markettools and Ugam are advertising for people to work the night shift in their research factories over in India.

I visited a few of these places on a trip to Delhi (not Markettools or Ugam) a couple of years back. 100 desks in a basement..doing round the clock CATI projects in multiple languages. Quite impressive in some respects - it’s evidence of real determination on the part of the workers and owners in these shops.

No experience is required for the MarketTools post (if anyone is interested). Ugam require 0 to 1 years on the other hand. Like Crosstab, Dexterity and a few others they all seem to be growing very fast, but we’ve had some issues when outsourcing in Eastern Europe, India and South America. People just can’t love your project as much you would, so a loss in quality is pretty inevitable, even if they go through the motions smoothly.

It does raise the question about the sort of quality you can expect to receive from these sort of teams.

They tend to have quite good systems in place and a strong desire to do a good job but the employees are a little green. Also you can get promoted quite quickly and as soon as that happens the managers don’t seem so keen to get involved in the day to day and I think they stop learning as fast.
